Valley’s 2023 Blog Review

As the year draws to a close and many of us are considering the year behind us, and the year ahead, we’re looking at the top blog articles from 2023. Whether you saw them as brand new articles when they came out or this is the first time hearing of them, 2023 has been packed with great information for any driver.

To ring in the new year, we’re recapping our top six blogs from 2023!

How to Understand ICBC Road Test Results

We focused some of our time on identifying and clarifying ICBC nuances, including how to decipher road test results. When it comes to marking sheets for road tests, they can be hard to understand by the general public, especially if the test was unsuccessful. After an unsuccessful road test, new drivers are likely to only hear why they failed, and are not necessarily going to hear or understand what the examiner has to say regarding the reasons for not making it through successfully.

Knowing and understanding the ICBC road test results sheet can be helpful if you need to spend time reviewing and rectifying what may have gone wrong during the road test. We talked about the Examiners Marking Sheet and the Road Test Results Sheet, and provided examples of both so any road tester knows what to expect.

Your Guide to ICBC’s Driving Records

We included more information about ICBC, laying out what Driving Records are available to drivers and what each one of them means. There are four different types of records offered by ICBC. These records are the driver’s abstract, an insurance and claims history record, a driver factor report, and a commercial driving record.

This blog also shows examples of each document and outlines different possible scenarios and how that might impact your records. We covered what each one of these driving records are so any driver knows what to look for, and how to interpret each document. We have also included some commonly asked questions to clarify what some ICBC terms mean, like penalty points and licence suspensions.

What Do I Need to Know About Getting My Motorcycle Licence?

Every year, we’re looking to educate and encourage drivers, and this year was no different with our focus on how drivers can expand the horizon and the excitement by learning to ride a motorcycle! Before you can learn to ride a motorcycle, you need to get a motorcycle learner’s licence.

This article outlines each progression through the licensing steps so you know what to expect along the way. We take you from the first step of studying, through to what to expect on, and how to book, the knowledge test and outlining learner licence validity. You’ll also learn about the motorcycle skills test as well as the final road test.

How to Become a Delivery Driver in BC

The other three blogs from our top list were from our “How To” guides. While we write guides for cars and motorcycles too, our commercial truck division was the most popular this year! Although not often thought of when thinking of “commercial truck drivers”, delivery drivers are part of that category. In this article we talked about how any driver can work towards becoming a delivery driver, what the licensing requirements are, and what some additional requirements may be depending on the company they’re aiming to work for.

Once the licensing and additional requirements are taken care of, drivers can decide where they want to go with their career: delivering for food companies, cargo and package companies, or ride-hailing companies.

How to Become a Tow Truck Driver in BC

A tow truck driver career is challenging yet rewarding, and every day can be different and exciting. There’s also a lot to learn, but it’s a great mix of solitary, independent work that still involves interaction with customers, industry partners, dispatchers, and other commercial operators.

This “How To” guide looked at the specific steps involved in becoming a tow truck driver in regards to licensing, but also who you need to be as a committed and safe driver. Tow truck driving does come with the hazard of working on the side of busy roadways and highways, so being safety conscious is an important characteristic!

How You Can Reduce the Cost of Truck Driving School

Our final top blog from 2023 was for drivers entering into the world of truck driving. Before you can look too deeply into the “How To’s” of a specific driving career, you need to make sure you’re equipped to drive! Driving a truck isn’t just something you pick up in a day or so of practice - it requires discipline, patience and tenacity to handle a vehicle with such size and power.

The costs of truck driving school can be high, so we outlined what’s required of commercial drivers, and exposed some ways to help pay for truck training programs.

From deciphering ICBC records and road tests, to letting your hair loose on a motorcycle, to laying out how to get to the commercial truck driving career you’ve always dreamed of, 2023 was a road full of knowledge!

We’re looking forward to what 2024 has in-store, and hope that you’ll join us for another batch of interesting and informative blog articles throughout the next year.

"A special “Thank You” to you. From what I was told, you never let my daughter put her guard down. Good for you.

I appreciate all the hard work and dedication you’ve given to my daughter. I will recommend Valley Driving School to as many people as I can.

Again, “Thank You” to everyone. Who knows…maybe my daughter will be back for other types of drivers training ie: motorcycle, standard, or even semi-trucks. Could happen. She ‘loves’ to drive.

Best regards"
