Driving in Surrey: Local Tips

What should I expect when driving in Surrey?

Driving in Surrey requires confidence in high-volume traffic and precise lane management. You should expect a fast-paced environment on major corridors like King George Boulevard and 152nd Street. Our training emphasizes the global skills (communication, observation, speed control, space margins, steering and hazard perception) so you can confidently navigate Surrey’s busy hubs like Newton and Guildford.

What are the challenges of driving near the Surrey logistics hubs and transit hubs?

Large commercial vehicles frequent major routes like the South Fraser Perimeter Road (Hwy 17) and the Pacific Highway (Hwy 15).  Our training will ensure you are confident sharing the road with semi-trucks, dump trucks, and delivery trucks to ensure you have adequate space margins, staying aware of other driver’s blind spots. Additionally, you’ll learn to navigate the RapidBus lanes on 104th Avenue, where traffic patterns can shift quickly near transit stations.

How do I navigate Surrey’s multi-lane grid system?

Focus on being proactive and planning ahead for potential traffic changes; being in the correct lane before major intersections, like 88th Avenue and 128th Street, is a good way to prevent stressful last-minute merges.

“Thank you so much for your professional approach to driver training.  I missed learning to drive in my teenage years and needed to quickly learn the rules of the road in order to pass my road test for a new job.

The kind of service I received from Valley driving was excellent and of high caliber.  I did the entire program and all of it was useful to helping me pass my exam.  My experience with my instructor is to be commended immensely.  He was patient and helpful as I learned to drive, and without him I likely would not have passed that road test!  I'm thoroughly impressed by Valley Driving as a business and would like all of you to know that I appreciate how well each of you do your work.  Thanks!”
