Class 1 Instructor Training Course
An overview of correct operating procedures in conjunction with valuable instructional strategies (how to teach) will provide you the tools to begin your career as a professional driving instructor. Demonstrations, behind the wheel driving, practice giving instruction including feedback/assessment between instructor and student make for a course that is practical, stimulating and exciting. As a prerequisite to this course, ICBC requires you to have several years of full-time commercial driving experience.

- Conducting a needs assessment
- Pre-trip inspections
- Observation skills
- Basic and complex maneuvers (starting, steering, stopping, shifting, hills, turns, backing, etc.)
- Speed and space management
- Common mistakes students make and how to correct them
- Teaching in urban, highway & freeway environments
- Instructing students with learning challenges
- Instruction sequencing
- Selecting appropriate training areas
- Advanced skills development
Class 1 Instructor Training Course - 40 Hours
Class 5 Instructor Training Course - 80 Hours (Required component for a Class 1 Instructor)
